Upcycling is a form of recycling in which materials or objects are reused and upgraded at the same time. Reusing existing items conserves resources and helps to preserve our environment and saves us the embarrassment of having to throw something away. Having created something from what was supposed to be garbage always fills me with satisfaction and contentment. In a way, upcycling forms a counterpoint to the throwaway mentality and is therefore very modern these days and is now widespread in the fashion and furniture industries, for example.

 

DIY ideas for reusing and transforming existing items often come about quite by chance. You can find some of them here. I hope to give you a little inspiration, encouragement and support so that you too can make something beautiful out of what you already have or would perhaps throw away, thus making a small contribution to preserving our planet and making the world we live in a little bit prettier place.
