minimalist DIY wooden lamp

decorative lighting that is easy to implement

I've always believed that creative people who get involved can change the world. I may not have changed the world with this project, but I have improved the atmosphere at my desk and that's why I'm telling you about it here, in the hope that you too can make your home a little more beautiful with a lamp like this, or give it to someone as a gift to contribute a little to the beauty of the world in this way.

Strictly speaking, I didn't make the lamp all by myself, my partner helped me and took care of the electrical part, because I'm a bit suspicious of anything to do with electricity.

To keep everything as simple, elegant and minimalist as possible, we used four simple pieces of wood of the same size.We had some leftover pieces in the cellar that were perfect for this project. The most important and at the same time most visible part of the lamp is the light bulb. For our lamp, we used a vintage light bulb made of light golden glass with a filament that looks like a tornado of light and emits a beautiful warm cozy light that is actually able to warm up the perceived atmosphere in the room. We didn't use any screws or nails except for a single small one to fix the L-shaped base of the lamp holder to the inside of one of the four pieces of wood. It was enough to glue the four pieces of wood together with wood glue and let this basic structure dry a little. The socket, including the cable, light switch and plug, came from a bedside lamp. The reuse made the realization of this desk lamp much easier.

It has now been more than 6 years since this lamp found its permanent place on my desk and so far there has been no need to replace the bulb. I find it really pretty and cozy, almost a modern candle replacement. To summarize, you need to build a lamp like this:

  • four pieces of wood of the same size

  • wood glue

  • Lamp socket with cable and light switch

  • large vintage light bulb

  • a small nail

As our pieces of wood were nice and smooth and I personally like the natural wooden surface, we didn't do it, but you could also paint the wooden base with a protective varnish to make the lamp more resistant to stains and dust.

If you don't have a complete lamp holder with cable and light switch, you can find a suitable one here. I hope you like the lamp at least as much as I do and that you feel like making one for yourself or for someone you like. I am convinced that it would make a perfect gift for almost anyone. Thanks to its minimalist, elegant style, it fits perfectly into any environment, regardless of the style of interior design.

If you like this project, feel free to leave a comment or simply "give it a heart", share the post or write to me. If you have any ideas on how to make the lamp even more beautiful or functional, I'd love to hear your suggestions. A hug and see you soon!
