unforgettable magical DIY fairy tale earring as a lucky charm

On one of my many visits to a bead store, I found - among other things - a cute little magic mushroom made of glass, about 1.5 cm tall, with a hole running lengthwise through its interior. It is a fly agaric, like the ones in fairy tales or the ones the Vikings supposedly used to flavor their wine, which they drank before going into battle to gain courage, strength and aggression. The botanical name of the fly agaric is Amanita muscaria. It is a mushroom that has been used throughout the world for shamanic rituals to induce hallucinations and to look into other worlds, although the mushroom acts more as a delirant than a hallucinogen. Its toxicity should be mentioned at this point - please do not try it! It is also known as the "mushroom of the mad". It is also assumed that the term "fly agaric" does not refer to the fly animal, but to flies as a symbol of madness. The fly agaric is also one of the most frequently depicted and one of the most well-known mushrooms due to its wide distribution, its vivid and eye-catching color, red with white spots, and its size (it can grow up to 25 cm high). A little fun fact on the side: the fly agaric was named Mushroom of the Year 2022 by the German Society of Mycology.
If you pay attention, when children draw a mushroom, they often draw one with a red hat and white dots. The fly agaric is often associated with pretty pictures, such as little houses of gnomes or dwarves. It is considered one of the most popular symbols of luck.
After some information and curiosities about toadstools, I will now tell you how I made my earring: I found it very easy and I am sure that you will find it very easy too.
What you need:
Jewelry wire for chains
Unlike other earrings, this time I didn't use a rigid wire pin, but jewelry wire for chains, which I doubled to form a loop at the top end to which the ear hook can be attached. The mushroom is threaded onto the jewelry wire. Both ends are covered with a small malleable crimp bead, which is pressed flat with pliers after being threaded onto the wire so that it stays firmly in place. It also holds the glass mushroom on the earring. Simple, isn't it? It takes no more than 5 minutes to make this homemade earring.
The earring is not only easy to make, children also find it very interesting and I find it a nice decoration not only on my ear, but also on my earring holder on the wall when I'm not wearing it.
What do you think of the toadstool earring? Do you like it? Or don't you like mushrooms? There will soon be a recipe with mushrooms here on the blog, but of course not with this variety! What is already available is a recipe for fabulous toadstool-shaped fortune cookies - absolutely non-toxic, of course... Feel free to read more posts and feel free to contact me with any questions. If you liked this post, or any of the others on decorating, home or DIY, can you help me by sharing it? Thanks in advance, a hug and see you soon!
